Renewable Energy

What is our goal?

Our breweries will be carbon neutral by 2030. We are also engaging our suppliers and partners to reduce the carbon emissions of our products across the entire supply chain by 30% over the same period. Our ultimate goal is to be carbon neutral across our supply chain by 2040.

To achieve these goals, we are concentrating our energy needs on green sources.
By 2025, 100% of the electricity consumed in our breweries will come from renewable energy.

How will we get there?

We are working with all our breweries to make the transition to renewables a reality. On our path to using 100% energy from renewable sources by 2025, half of the beers we currently brew are already produced using green electricity, and 100% of the electricity comes from renewable sources in Poland and the Netherlands (as of 2021).

What we have done already…

Poland

In 2020, we signed a power purchase agreement with a local renewable energy supplier in Poland to guarantee the supply of 100% green electricity to our three Polish breweries – Tyskie Browary Książęc, Dojlidy Brewery, and Lech Browary Wielkopolski.

As well as bringing us closer to our carbon neutrality goal, this commitment enabled the energy supplier to invest in more infrastructure and thus support other Polish businesses in accessing renewable energy.

Netherlands

As of the start of 2020, Grolsch, our brewery in the Netherlands, has halved its carbon emissions and uses only 100% green electricity generated by European wind turbines at both the brewery and its drinks wholesaler.

This has reduced our CO2 emissions by 46% (6700 tonnes) per year, which is equivalent to the amount of carbon emissions emitted annually by around 3,000 households.
