From now on, can packaging of Grolsch is 100% plastic-free. Let us introduce you to cardboard TopClip, which made it possible.

It is made of FSC certified corrugated cardboard, does not use any glue and can be easily picked up with two fingers from top. Also it won’t suffer any damage in a fridge. And cans are easily removed from the packaging.

“The TopClip is a fully recyclable, biodegradable cardboard packaging. The taste of our beer didn’t change: it still has the same character, but now it’s more sustainably packaged. That way your beer tastes even better,” says Ard Bossema, Marketing & Strategy Director at Grolsch. “Grolsch is the first brewer in the Netherlands to introduce this packaging, giving consumers the opportunity to make a sustainable choice. As far as we are concerned, this is the new standard,” he adds.

Thanks to the new cardboard packaging, Grolsch will save more than 100,000 kg of plastic every year – an equivalent of four million new plastic bags.

TopClip has been designed and patented by Smurfit Kappa, a company that tries to make all types of packaging more sustainable. We are proud that Grolsch became their partner for entering the Dutch market with this innovative solution, as the brewery has been conducting an active sustainable policy for years.

Cheers to that!
